Pag Route

A classic Kvarner loop from Marina Novi Vinodolski. This route takes you through the heart of the Kvarner Gulf — the medieval town of Rab, the lively shores of Novalja, and the historically fascinating Goli Otok — before returning home via the picturesque rocky coastline of Baška on Krk. Sheltered waters and short daily passages make this route ideal for families and first-time charterers.

"
We had never sailed the Kvarner before and were completely overwhelmed by the beauty of it. The crew knew every hidden bay on Lošinj and Unije that you won't find in any guidebook. Our children still talk about it as the best holiday of their lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before setting sail.

Croatian law requires at least one person aboard to hold a valid boating license and a VHF radio operator's certificate. For bareboat charter, we need copies of both documents before confirming your booking, and originals must be on board throughout your trip. If you don't hold a valid license, no problem — book a charter with one of our professional skippers, who will handle the sailing while you enjoy the Kvarner Gulf.

The charter price includes the vessel, all standard safety equipment, bed linen and towels, and a comprehensive briefing on the route and local area. For skippered charters, the skipper's fee is included. Marina fees, fuel, food, drinks, and national park entrance fees (such as Kornati) are settled separately during the trip. We provide a complete cost overview at booking so there are no surprises.

Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure receive a full deposit refund. Cancellations between 30 and 60 days before departure forfeit 50% of the deposit. Cancellations within 30 days of departure forfeit the entire deposit. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected changes to your plans.

A 30% deposit is required to confirm your booking. We accept bank transfer (IBAN on the invoice) and all major credit and debit cards. The remaining balance is due 30 days before the departure date. After reviewing your inquiry, you'll receive a confirmation email with two copies of the charter agreement, an invoice, a blank crew list, and a blank provisioning list.

We welcome well-behaved dogs on most of our vessels, subject to prior approval. Please let us know at the time of your inquiry so we can confirm suitability for your chosen vessel and advise on any additional cleaning deposit. Cats and other pets are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Yes — most guests self-provision, and we provide a blank provisioning list at booking to help you plan. There are well-stocked supermarkets near Marina Novi Vinodolski, and many harbors along the routes have local markets with fresh produce, fish, and regional specialties. If you'd like to arrange a catering package or have specific dietary requirements, contact us and we'll recommend local suppliers.

All Maro Charter vessels are equipped with a 4G marine router providing WiFi throughout the vessel. Signal strength varies depending on your location — strong near the mainland and in marinas, weaker at more remote anchorages like Unije or Goli Otok. We also encourage a gentle digital detox — the Kvarner has a way of making you forget about your inbox.

Bring soft bags or duffel bags — hard suitcases take up precious locker space. Essentials: lightweight, breathable clothing, a warmer layer for evenings (Kvarner nights can be cooler than you'd expect), non-slip deck shoes with white or light soles, swimwear, SPF 50+ sunscreen, UV sunglasses with a strap, and a wide-brimmed hat. Adriatic sun reflected off the water is intense. Leave heavy electronics and valuables at home and travel light.

May and June offer the best balance of good wind, warm temperatures, and uncrowded anchorages — ideal for first-time Kvarner sailors. September is a favorite among experienced sailors: the sea is warmest, crowds have vanished, and the light is extraordinary. July and August guarantee sunshine and the liveliest marinas, but require earlier berth reservations. We recommend avoiding the first two weeks of August unless you enjoy peak season.

Our vessels cater to different group sizes — from intimate couples to groups of up to 10 guests. Each vessel's page lists the exact guest capacity and cabin count. Day charters can accommodate additional guests on deck. Contact us if you have a larger group and we'll arrange custom solutions or a multi-vessel charter.

Safety is our absolute priority. Our skippers continuously monitor the forecast — the Kvarner bura can arrive quickly and demands respect. If bad weather prevents a planned passage, your skipper will choose a safe alternative anchorage and adjust the itinerary. Our 24/7 sea assistance team and Highfield patrol vessel are always on standby. In the rare event that an entire charter must be cancelled due to extreme weather, we'll offer a full rebooking or refund.

Yes, all Maro Charter vessels carry full third-party marine liability insurance and are equipped to Croatian Maritime Office standards: life jackets for every person on board, distress flares, fire extinguishers, bilge pumps, and first aid kits — all inspected and certified before every departure. Children's life jackets are available on request; please provide ages at booking so we can ensure correct sizes. We advise guests to arrange their own personal travel and health insurance independently.
